Community Guidelines

CarScene – Community Guidelines

(Mobile app, carscene.au & portal.carscene.au)

Last Updated: 11 October 2026

1. About these guidelines

CarScene is a community for car people: owners, clubs, venues, businesses and event organisers. These guidelines set out the standard of conduct expected of everyone who uses CarScene.

  1. These guidelines apply to every account, page, post, comment, chat message, vehicle profile, event and cruise on CarScene, including the CarScene mobile app, carscene.au and the CarScene portal.
  2. These guidelines form part of, and are to be read with, the CarScene Terms of Use (and, for the mobile app, the App Terms of Use) and the CarScene Privacy Policy. If there is any inconsistency, the Terms of Use prevail.
  3. By using CarScene you agree to comply with these guidelines. A breach of these guidelines is a breach of the Terms of Use.
  4. Organisation pages (clubs, venues, businesses and event organisers) are responsible for the conduct of their pages, posts, events and chats, in addition to the responsibilities of each individual member of their team.

2. Respect for others

Disagree about cars all you like. Treat the people behind them with respect.

You must not:

  1. harass, bully, intimidate or threaten any person, club or organisation, in public or in private chats;
  2. post or send hate speech, or content that attacks or demeans a person or group on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or disability;
  3. organise or join a coordinated attack on a person, page or post (a pile-on), including through reports made in bad faith;
  4. keep contacting a person who has blocked you, asked you to stop, or left a chat, including through another account or page; or
  5. mock or shame a person for their vehicle, its condition or their budget in a way intended to humiliate them.

3. Safety on and off the road

CarScene does not organise, endorse or condone dangerous or unlawful driving. Every driver is responsible for their own conduct and for complying with the law.

You must not:

  1. post content that threatens, targets or puts at risk a specific person, such as encouraging others to drive at, follow or harass another road user; or
  2. use CarScene navigation, cruise or check-in features in a way that distracts you from driving safely.

When attending an event or cruise you are expected to obey road rules and the lawful directions of police and the event organiser. Track days, motorsport and driving at a licensed venue under its own rules are welcome.

CarScene does not monitor or remove content because it shows vehicle modifications or driving. Responsibility for that content, and for any activity it shows, rests with the person who posted it. CarScene will act where content or an event directly endangers, harms or targets another person.

4. Privacy and vehicle security

A modified car is a target for theft. Protect other people's privacy and their vehicles as you would your own.

You must not:

  1. post or share another person's private information without their consent, including their home or work address, phone number, email address, identity documents or financial details;
  2. post or share where another person's vehicle is usually kept or parked, or information that would help someone find, track or steal it;
  3. post another person's number plate, or a photo that clearly shows it, with the intention of identifying, shaming or locating the owner;
  4. record or post private chat messages, or screenshots of them, to embarrass or target the other people in that chat; or
  5. collect or scrape information about CarScene users for any purpose.

You are responsible for what you share about yourself. Think before posting your own address, regular parking spot or the details of your vehicle's security.

5. Content standards

Everything you post, upload or send on CarScene must be lawful and suitable for a general audience.

You must not post, upload or send:

  1. nudity, sexually explicit material or sexual content of any kind, and never any content that sexualises a minor;
  2. graphic violence, gore, or images of serious injury or death, including from road crashes;
  3. content that promotes, sells or facilitates illegal activity, including stolen vehicles or parts, illegal drugs or weapons;
  4. content that threatens or encourages self-harm or violence against any person;
  5. content that infringes another person's copyright, trade marks or other rights, including photos you did not take or do not have permission to use;
  6. false or misleading content intended to deceive, including fake listings, fake events and doctored images presented as genuine; or
  7. malware, phishing links or any content designed to obtain another person's login or payment details.

CarScene automatically blocks hate slurs and explicit sexual terms in posts, comments and messages. Getting around that filter (for example by misspelling a blocked word) is itself a breach of these guidelines.

6. Honest accounts and pages

People need to be able to trust who they are dealing with.

  1. You must not impersonate any person, club, venue, business, event organiser, brand or CarScene itself, or suggest a connection with them that does not exist.
  2. You may create or claim a club, venue, business or event organiser page only if you are authorised to act for it. CarScene may ask for evidence of that authority at any time.
  3. Business and venue pages must hold a valid Australian Business Number (ABN), and the details given for them must be true and current. Clubs and event organisers may be informal or hobby groups.
  4. Each person may hold one personal account. You must not create or use another account to get around a suspension, restriction or block. Accounts that appear to be linked to a suspended account may be restricted while CarScene reviews them.
  5. You must not buy, sell, transfer or share accounts or pages, or the followers, members or likes attached to them.
  6. You must not use automated tools to create accounts, post content, follow, like or send messages.

7. Clubs, events and cruises

Organisers set the tone for everyone who turns up.

  1. Event and cruise details must be accurate: the date, time, location, cost, entry conditions and host. Update or cancel an event promptly when it changes.
  2. Organisers are responsible for holding their events lawfully, including any permission needed to use the venue or location, and for the safety briefing and conduct expected at a cruise.
  3. A club or page team (its owners, admins and moderators) must moderate its own posts, comments and group chats fairly and in line with these guidelines. Club moderation tools must not be used to harass or punish members for reasons unrelated to the club's rules.
  4. Clubs may set their own membership rules and dues, provided they are clear to members before they join and are applied consistently.
  5. Members of a club and followers of a venue, business or organiser page are expected to respect that page's own rules as well as these guidelines.
  6. Cruise route details shared with attendees must not be republished publicly without the organiser's permission.

8. Promotion and commercial activity

Businesses and venues are welcome to promote themselves through their own pages. Promotion must be honest and must not crowd out the community.

  1. You must not send spam, including repeated or unsolicited promotional posts, comments or messages, or the same content posted across many clubs or chats.
  2. Offers, prices, giveaways and competitions must be accurate and must comply with Australian Consumer Law and any state or territory rules for trade promotions.
  3. Content that you are paid, sponsored or given goods or services to post must be clearly disclosed as such.
  4. You must not use another person's or page's content, name or logo to promote your own goods or services without their permission.
  5. CarScene does not process sales between users. Any purchase or sale arranged through CarScene is solely between the parties involved, and CarScene is not responsible for it.

9. Reporting and blocking

If you see something that breaks these guidelines, report it rather than responding to it.

  1. Posts, comments, chat messages, vehicle profiles, events and organisation pages can be reported from their menu in the app or on carscene.au. Reports can be made for spam, harassment or bullying, nudity or sexual content, violence or threats, scams or impersonation, misleading offers, or any other breach.
  2. Reports are confidential. The person you report is not told who reported them.
  3. CarScene aims to review every report within 24 hours.
  4. You can block any person. A blocked person cannot message you or comment on your posts, and is not told that you have blocked them.
  5. Reports must be made in good faith. Making false or repeated reports to harass someone is a breach of these guidelines.
  6. If someone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services on 000 first.

10. Enforcement

CarScene enforces these guidelines and the Terms of Use, and may act on its own review or on a report.

  1. To investigate a report or a suspected breach, CarScene may review any content and information associated with the accounts and pages involved, including content shared in chats.
  2. Where CarScene reasonably believes these guidelines or the Terms of Use have been breached, CarScene may, at its discretion and without prior notice:
    1. remove or restrict content;
    2. suspend or restrict an account or page while it is reviewed;
    3. refuse or revoke a page claim, or remove a person's role on a page;
    4. hold a new page for review before it is published;
    5. restrict any account that appears to be linked to a suspended account; and
    6. permanently close an account or page.
  3. The action taken will reflect the seriousness of the breach, whether it was repeated, and the risk to other people. Serious breaches, including threats of violence, sexual content involving minors, and fraud, may lead to immediate permanent closure.
  4. Where conduct may be unlawful or put any person at risk, CarScene may refer the matter to, and share relevant information with, police or other authorities as permitted or required by law.
  5. A person whose account is suspended will be told by email and may ask for a review by replying to that email. Content and data are kept while an account is suspended.
  6. Action taken by CarScene does not limit any other right or remedy CarScene has under the Terms of Use or at law.

11. Changes and contact

  1. CarScene may update these guidelines from time to time. The current version is always published on carscene.au and in the app, and continued use of CarScene after a change means you accept the updated guidelines.
  2. Questions about these guidelines, or a request to review a decision, can be sent to support@carscene.au.
